A Note of Introduction
As you embark on this journey over the next 12 weeks to learn about the Holy Spirit and His interactions with God’s people open your heart and mind and let God’s Spirit shower you with enlightenment and joy. The Spirit tries to communicate with believers today but we are often too busy doing good and listening to the noisy world to hear Him. Commit to quieting your spirit so you can get to know God’s Spirit.
According to a 1997 Barna Survey 61% of US residents agreed with the statement that the Holy Spirit is, “a symbol of God’s presence or power, but not a living entity.” This view was also held by a near majority of all Christians that participated in the survey. I am afraid to ask what the numbers would be today. Sisters, the Holy Spirit is God and is consistently referenced from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 as such.
Let this study remind you that God didn’t intend for you to live your Christian life on your own or to have a spirit of fear. He sent His Spirit to live in you, guide you into all truth and transform you. Since the Spirit is always pointing to and glorifying the Father or the Son and mostly works behind the scenes we often overlook His impact.
Take a moment to realize what a beautiful thought it is that God went from hovering over creation in Genesis 1- to taking on human form in Matthew 1- to making His dwelling place inside His children today. Praise God for the gift of His Spirit!
This study guide is written from the New International Version. You should be able to answer all the questions by either examining the text or your life. Please be sure to pray before you begin each lesson.
Sisters, if you are feeling empty open yourselves up to be filled by the living water which is the Spirit and be refreshed!
