God is creator of all there is…all there is in the natural world, all there is in the spiritual world, all there is in the human world.
God created everything; so, it only makes sense that the being who created it, dominates it.
This thought of God being dominant resonates throughout scripture. The Psalms are particularly full of God's dominance. But, I want to look at a snapshot of Jesus’ life when he displayed the all encompassing power of God: Mark chapters four and five.
Beginning in Mark chapter 4:35 there are four miraculous events recorded.
First, Jesus is in the boat with his disciples on the sea when a fierce storm arises. The disciples fear for their lives the storm is so bad. They awaken Jesus who is sleeping thru the whole thing. When he awakens, he says this,
Mark 4:39
"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be Still! Then the wind died down and it was completely still."
When they all get out of the boat they come upon a man who is possessed by a demon. No one had been able to contain him or heal him. Jesus cast the demon from the man into a herd of pigs. Mark 5:15 is the conclusion of this incident.
"When they (the towns people) came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid."
As Jesus and his disciples continued their journey a man who had a sick daughter met them. The man begged Jesus to come to his house to save his dying daughter. Jesus agreed and they went on their way. But as they were traveling there, women who had been ill for 12 years touched Jesus cloak. Jesus stopped the processions and healed the women who had touched him.
Mark 5:34
"Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
The young girl now has died. Jesus continued on to her house though and the story concludes in verse 41.
Mark 5:41
"He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”) Immediately the girl stood up and walked around."
In the space of 50+ verses, and probably a few days, Jesus did 4 miracles that show God dominance over every realm.
Nature
Demons
Disease
Death.
What a mighty God we serve!
